Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy for Lexi, an iOS app published by Kelvin Bui. Bundle identifier com.kelvin.lexi. This policy explains what the app stores, what it does not do, and the control you have over your own data.

Short version

• Lexi collects nothing. There is no server, no account, and no login.
• Everything you write, including any voice recordings, stays on your device.
• There are no ads, no analytics, and no crash reporting.
• Reminders are local notifications scheduled by iOS on your device.
• One optional feature looks a word up in an external dictionary. It is off until you turn it on, and it sends only the word.

1. What Lexi stores, and where

Lexi is a notebook. Everything in it is written by you: collections, words, your own English definitions, translations, example sentences, notes, synonyms, and where you first met a word. The app also records your review history so it can schedule repetition, which means each word carries an interval, a due date, and a count of how often you recalled or forgot it, along with one row per day you studied so the streak can be calculated.

You can also record yourself saying a word. That clip is saved with the word on your device and is never uploaded.

All of this is stored on your device, in the app sandbox. A small number of preferences are stored alongside it: your daily goal, the name you optionally enter for the greeting, your appearance choice, and your reminder settings.

None of it is uploaded anywhere. There is no backend to upload it to.

2. What Lexi does not do

Lexi has no backend. It never connects to a server of ours, because there is not one. That rules out most of what a privacy policy normally has to describe:

• No user accounts, sign in, or profiles.
• No analytics, telemetry, or usage measurement.
• No crash or performance reporting.
• No advertising, and therefore no advertising identifiers.
• No third party SDKs. Lexi uses only Apple frameworks that ship with iOS.
• No tracking across apps or websites. Lexi never shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.
• No access to your contacts, photos, camera, location, or health data.

3. Dictionary suggestions

The word screen can show a small panel with a pronunciation, another sense or two, and extra synonyms. This is the only feature in Lexi that uses the internet, and it is switched off until you turn it on in Profile.

When it is on, Lexi sends the single word you are looking at to an external dictionary service, along with the language of its collection. Nothing else goes with it. Your definitions, notes, examples, recordings, review history, and streak are never sent. That service has its own privacy policy and we have no control over it, no account with it, and no way to identify you to it.

Turning the switch off stops all lookups immediately.

4. Voice recordings

If you record yourself saying a word, iOS asks for microphone permission the first time. The clip is short, is stored with that word on your device, and never leaves it. You can replace or delete it whenever you like, and deleting the word deletes the recording with it.

5. Notifications

If you switch on a reminder, Lexi asks iOS for permission to send local notifications. These are scheduled entirely on your device, from the due dates already stored in your notebook. No request leaves the phone.

A reminder may quote a few of the words that are waiting for you, so a notification can read like “alleviate, ambiguous, coherent. Still got them?”. That text is assembled on your device from your own writing and is visible only on your own lock screen. If you would rather it were not, turn the reminder off inside the app, or turn off notifications for Lexi in iOS Settings.

6. Purchases

Lexi has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. It does not use StoreKit. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships.

7. Backups

Because your notebook lives in the standard app data directory, it is included in whatever backup you have already set up with Apple, whether that is an iCloud backup or an encrypted local backup on your computer. Those backups are handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Lexi does not have its own sync service and cannot read your backup.

8. Children

Lexi is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children. There is no messaging, no user generated content shared with anyone else, and no advertising.

9. Retention and deletion

We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Your notebook stays on your device for as long as the app is installed.

Deleting the app removes all of it, recordings included. Please note that Lexi currently has no export feature, so if you delete the app without a device backup, what you wrote is gone for good.

10. Your rights

Data protection laws such as the GDPR give you the right to access, correct, export, and erase personal data held by a company. In Lexi's case there is nothing for us to hold, so there is nothing for us to hand over or delete. Your data is already in your possession and under your control on your own device.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the “Last updated” date at the top will change with it. Any future version that introduces data collection will say so plainly rather than burying it.
